Meeting current needs and creating new opportunities for church and community

In 2008 we put into action plans and dreams that have been discussed for many years. To provide St. James with much needed (often considered) essential facilities to meet the needs of an ever growing church and community. Winter 2009 saw the fulfilment of the first stage of this process, the completion of the toilet facilities and servery.

St. James has over the years continually developed it’s worship space without losing sight of the rich tradition of it’s heritage. We hope to continue this, providing a church that future generations will continue to be proud of.

Toilet facilities - COMPLETED!
Today, a toilet in church is a necessity. The single toilet will have disabled access and provide baby changing facilities. It will be located in the west corner of the north aisle. The benefit to both the congregation and visitors of such a facility is significant and has been requested by the members of the church for many years. Now is the time to put the dream into a reality.

Servery - COMPLETED!
Beverages are served every Sunday after Parish Communion and midweek, with a well supported coffee morning every month. We also offer drinks every Saturday morning to those who come into church to enquire about weddings and baptisms. The new servery will be located in the west corner of the north aisle, adjacent to the toilet. The servery will continue to support regular services together with any other events held. With this in mind this facility will have sinks and a dishwasher and be able to accommodate all utensils, crockery, etc.

Young children’s room
The present facility for young families attending services is very limited especially for those with babies and toddlers. The new room in the South Aisle will be enclosed to help reduce noise levels during services and also allow the area to be independently heated. The room will also be used by our ‘Pebbles’ group for young children and their carers which meet during the week.

Teaching room
This will be created in the area beneath the organ and provide a room from which we can run a Sunday School for the increasing number of children now attending services. Outside of worship this area will be used to provide bible study classes, marriage / baptism preparation, confirmation groups, as well as providing a room for PCC and sub committee meetings. It will also be an area for social engagement after services.

This area will also be enclosed to help reduce noise levels and enable it to be independently heated from the rest of the church. Whilst being flexible to open up to provide seating for large services.

New storage
We will also re-order the bell tower to provide much needed purpose built storage.

Time for action
In giving you this leaflet we hope that you will reflect on these plans, most importantly pray for this project and consider how you can respond.

We believe that St. James needs these plans, that our community needs them, and that together we can fund it.
